The suspension also got reworked so it would handle better when you want to do some sporty driving. ![]() The newer generation was put on a diet, shaving almost half a ton of the vehicle, something you can't miss when driving it. If you can manage it I would try and get a second generation Range Rover Sport, build from 2013 to 2022. Replacing the ATF a few times or resetting the software will sort it out. It's an expensive repair, but one that is highly recommended to have it done. The 5.0 V8 before 2013 had issues with it's timing chain tensioners. The main weak points for the Range Rover Sport are:īecause the car is so heavy brakes and (rubber) parts of the suspension wear quick. The petrol units were both Jaguar engines. After 2012 they were upgraded to a eight speed autobox, which can be recognized because the lever for the automatic has become a rotary knob. The 3 liter diesel engines and the 5.0 V8 engines had a six speed autobox as standard. Please do not cheap out on the brakes for the supercharged V8, you'll need every bit of stopping power you can get. The petrol engines are quite powerful, so they work the brakes very hard. The petrol options was a 5.0 V8 either naturally aspirated or with a supercharger. When they run they're great, but when they blow. Crankshafts can snap, injectors can fail. The diesel engine was always a troubled one. (The 3 liter diesel engines are roughly identical save for the SDV6 which had an extra turbo and produced more power). The Range Rover Sport was available with either the 3.0 TDV6 or the 3.0 SDV6. The archbishop of Canterbury in full regalia will handle better and go faster on a track day. Save for the 5.0 V8 do not expect this Range Rover to be fast. If you take it to a track it will handle like a big heavy 4x4, any kind of sporty driving and you'll be in the leaning tower of Land Rover. Do not be fooled by the Sport badge, it is more aspirational. ![]() The extra weight means the car will wear it's suspension and brakes hard. At nearly three tons (metric) it's heavy. This unique double chassis didn't do it any favours for it's weight. The first generation Range Rover Sport came with both a ladder chassis (great off-road) and a monoque (great on-road). This generation shared it's underpinnings with the contemporary Discovery, so the same issues apply. A Range Rover Sport from that timeframe will be a facelifted first generation Range Rover Sport.
